1) How I Stepped into My Bug Bounty Journey?

While I was preparing for my CEH certification, I came across a fascinating concept in Chapter 11 that I hadn’t encountered before — web application pen testing. Until then, I planned to complete the CEH certification in the first place and dive into bug bounty hunting. I saw it as an opportunity to strengthen my fundamentals in cybersecurity, which I believed would greatly benefit my bug bounty journey.

2) What are important Skills to learn for Bug bounty?

So there are some basic things you must learn when diving into bug bounty.

BurpSuite: Burp is proxy software where you need to be a professional. It is considered the heart of bug bounty, and without knowing this, you can’t step into bug bounty.
Kali Linux: Kali Linux is an OS, a Linux distribution, which you will be using commands to work with. Generally a CMD, you need to smoothly play with this OS in order to learn bug bounty, if you want a course, kindly watch my YouTube video https://youtu.be/7-3N0WeWejE without knowing this, you can’t land on bug bounty.
Networking Concepts: As a cybersecurity researcher, it’s a basic thing to learn networking concepts, this applies same to bug bounty too, you should know at least the basics of networking, if you don’t, it’s a waste of learning bug bounty.
Programming language: Here, you don’t want to be a professional coder, just know the basics of Python and Go language, which you will need when you automate a process or develop a tool. and you should have the skill to understand the code of any languages used in a website or app

3) Will you suffer when you dive into bug bounty if you don’t know the basics of cyber security?

Yes! and absolutely yes! If you don’t have the above-mentioned skills, you can’t land on bug bounty. Even if you step into it, it will be a very hectic process to learn and cope with it.

4) OK, What should I do Now?

When people generally ask this question in my DMs, I would advise them to learn the above-mentioned basics first. Alternatively, I might recommend doing the CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) certification initially, as it covers all the basics of cybersecurity. Once you’ve completed this certification, you will have a good level of confidence when stepping into bug bounty hunting. Your learning process will be much smoother.

Conclusion:

Strengthen the basics first, then step into bug bounty. I have seen many people saying, ‘I can’t find even one flaw in my bug bounty journey.’ It’s because you are not good enough in your basics. So, strengthen the basics and move forward stronger.
